Routine maintenance of household/building water supply and drainage pipes

1. Daily review (weekly)
Check the pipe joints, threads, and flanges in the walls, floors, cabinets, and ceilings for water seepage, water stains, and moisture return; if there is slight water seepage, replace the gaskets and wrap raw material tapes in time.
Check whether the pipe clamps and brackets are loose. The hanging and shaking pipes will cause the joints to crack and leak. Reinforce them in time.
Separate hot and cold pipes to prevent high-temperature pipes from squeezing cold water pipes; pipes are not squeezed or hit by heavy objects.
The valve handwheel is in good condition, no rust or stuck, and the switch is smooth.
2. Monthly maintenance
All angle valves and main valves are opened and closed once to prevent the valve core from rusting due to long-term immobility; test the water-stopping effect after closing.
Clean the debris around the pipes and reserve space for maintenance; remove minor rust spots on metal pipes and apply anti-rust paint.
Open the lowest faucet in the home and let the water run for 1-2 minutes to drain out the sediment and rust in the pipe to prevent clogging of the faucet.
3. Quarterly/semi-annual maintenance
Check the pipe insulation layer, repair any damage to the insulation of the balcony, outdoor, and basement pipes in time to prevent frost cracking in winter.
Disassemble and clean the front filters of water heaters and water purifiers to reduce impurities entering the water pipes and causing accumulation on the inner walls.
Check the expansion joints for abnormal noises due to thermal expansion and cold contraction, or water seepage, and replace the seals promptly.
4. Annual maintenance
Test the water pressure in the whole house, stabilize the pressure and observe whether there are hidden leaks; if the water pressure is too high, install a pressure reducing valve.
If the inner wall of the old galvanized pipe is severely corroded and the water outlet is yellow, gradually replace it with PPR or stainless steel pipe.
Replace aging seals and hoses (metal braided hoses are recommended to be replaced every 2 years).
